Acrylic Paint Sets

Our acrylic paint comes in 2 fl oz / 60ml squeeze bottles, thick enough to hold a brush mark and creamy enough to blend wet on the palette. Every set includes brushes, so the box is ready for a first canvas the day it arrives.

The classic sets cover a full painting palette in 24 or 48 colors, with metallic gold and silver among them. The metallic set is 24 shimmering shades on its own, for accents, lettering and pieces that need to catch the light.

Classic or metallic

Pick the classic set if you are building a palette: primaries, earth tones, greens and blues that mix into everything else. Pick the metallic set if your projects already have color and need shine: gold edges on a canvas, silver lettering on a stone, a sparkle layer over a dry base coat.

Acrylic paint, paint markers or alcohol markers?

Brush painting gives you mixing: two drops on a palette make a third color, and thick strokes build texture. Paint markers give you control: no water cup, no palette, a fine tip for details. Alcohol markers give you blending on paper, because alcohol-based ink stays wet for a moment and two colors melt into a gradient.

Many artists use all three on one piece: a sketch with art markers, color blocked in with acrylic paint, and the final details and highlights added with a paint pen. If you are a beginner and want a brush in your hand, a paint set with the brushes included is the simplest place to start.

Our dual-tip markers set lines pair well with the paint sets: chisel tips for flat color, fine tips for outlines. Alcohol-based markers are blendable on paper and the ink dries in seconds, which suits portrait studies and smooth blending before you reach for a brush. Artists who paint with acrylic often keep a few art markers next to the palette to try vibrant colors on a study sheet first.

What comes in each set

The 24-color classic set includes 10 brushes and the 48-color set 12 brushes; the metallic set comes with 10. Each bottle holds 2 fl oz / 60ml. The brushes come in flat and round shapes for broad washes and fine lines, so a first canvas needs nothing else from the art store.

Surfaces and finishing

Canvas, canvas board, wood, rock, terracotta, fabric, paper, glass and plastic all take the paint. For pieces that will be handled or live outdoors, finish with a clear acrylic varnish once the paint has cured. On fabric, heat-set the design with an iron through a cloth so the color lasts through washes.

Mixing color with a small set

You do not need 48 bottles to paint 48 colors. Red, yellow, blue, white and black mix almost anything; a larger set saves time and keeps tones consistent from one project to the next. Keep a strip of painted swatches next to the palette so you can match a color later, and add white to any shade for a soft pastel.
